Caring For Extensions
Proper hair storage is a simple step that can prolong the life and beauty of your hair extensions. To help keep your crown looking its best, check out our extension storage recommendations.
Here are a few basic musts:
- Hair wefts should be stored in a cool, dry place.
- While not in use, extensions should be stored out of direct sunlight.
- Completely wash your hair and let extensions dry (completely). It’s very important that they are completely dry before being stored so the humidity does not cause unwanted mold or bacteria.
- Make sure extensions are brushed out before storing to avoid unnecessary tangles.
A couple storage ideas that don’t break the bank:
- Try storing in a mesh bag or bag made of breathable material (like cotton) for added ventilation and airflow. You can also purchase storage bags made especially for hair extensions.
- Stack clean/dry wefts on top of each other and roll them together. Brush a final time and gently twist the hair and place into a box. Make multiple hair bundles as necessary.
How to revive your extensions:
If your extensions have not been stored properly, then there’s a good chance your wefts are in need of some major revival.
Before you throw hair away, here are some things to try:
- Fill up the sink with warm water and add conditioner.
- Place the tangled extensions inside and leave overnight.
- Rinse hair and let it air dry.
- Apply some de-tangling spray and brush gently (yet thoroughly).
- To complete hair restoration, add natural oil to the hair, to restore it’s shine and vibrancy.
Hopefully your extensions were able to be restored to their former glory. To replace extensions or try on a whole new style by checking out our My Gem Hair collections.
